The Opportunity:

The transportation industry has incorporated a wide array of electronics over the years to assist drivers with tasks like route planning and data entry. No run-on-of-the-mill electronics will do, however; the working environment in these vehicles is quite hostile. Vibration is an ever-present issue and massive temperature and humidity swings pose serious issues to delicate electronics. Our customer saw an opportunity to create an attendance-tracking barcode scanner capable of withstanding these harsh conditions.

Solution

Priority one was selecting a scan engine capable of withstanding extreme environmental conditions while still reading barcodes quickly and reliably. Once an appropriate engine was chosen, our next challenge was isolating the scanner from vehicular vibration. This was accomplished by securing sensitive electronics with foam gaskets, while a sturdy metal bracket and rubber washers further isolated the overall assembly from any unwanted interference.
