In the midst of a product line redesign, this customer saw a need for a USB Charger to go alongside their existing product. Besides meshing with a newly established product family design, a proposed USB charger had to fast-charge any combination of two phones, tablets, and other media devices on two standard 2.1A USB ports plus run an additional 1A “Cigarette Port” charger alongside them, all while on a 12V input.
With creating a board capable of fast charging two devices and running a cigarette port being relatively straightforward, we looked to enhance the overall package with some additional features. An elastic band was added to the housing to allow users to hang up their phone while it charged. Rubber gaskets and sealing screws ensure that the device is usable in whatever environment the end user operates in.
